Parasitic Agora
Professor Micah Rutenberg // Arch 472
Fall 2023 - Japan Study Abroad
[In Collaboration with Anja Cordell]
The Parasitic Agora is the culmination of a semester abroad analyzing architecture and public space in Shibuya. The installation is comprised of a kit of parts designed to activate the roof plane of Shibuya through systems of gateways, connections, and allotments.

The kit of parts forms the basis of the Parasitic Agora’s modularity. It is made up of six interlocking components: scaffolding, fabric membranes, panels, shelters, parasitic latches, and anchors. These elements all exist throughout the Parasitic Agora’s prototypical Gateway, Connection, and Allotment, fulfilling the conditions needed for public space in Shibuya.
